Sponsor advertising and cover design for a SAWCA convention brochure, including custom concepts for Hyatt Regency and Stubb’s Bar-B-Q.

This convention brochure work included both the event cover and sponsor advertising inside the book. Most sponsors came to the project without finished ad assets, so part of the job was creating simple, clear concepts that still felt on‑brand for each partner.
The Hyatt and Stubb’s spreads combine existing photography and brand elements with new layout, copy, and hierarchy. The goal was to give sponsors ads that would read well in the context of a dense convention booklet while still feeling distinct from one another.
Even in a crowded convention booklet, a simple, well-structured ad can do more work than a busy, ‘clever’ one.
For Hyatt, the ad leans on a three-panel narrative—work, play, and rest—anchored by the line “our business is comfort.” The typography stays minimal so the rhythm between images carries most of the message.
For Stubb’s, the layout takes a louder, more textural route that fits their live‑music, barbecue identity. The page uses bolder type, distressed lettering, and imagery that feels closer to a gig poster, which helps it stand out inside the more conservative convention material.
